Claudia Aguirre is a student and practitioner of dance, music and theatre. Her grassroots training began at her home with social Latin dance and music, and her formal training began at Paula Moreno's School of Flamenco and Spanish dance in 1999. She has trained with several flamenco schools in Toronto, including Ritmo Flamenco and Carmen Romero's School of Flamenco Dance Arts and currently performs as both a dancer and cantaora. She completed the George Brown Commercial Dance Program in 2006 and is involved in a variety of dance companies outside of the flamenco community, such as the Dance Company, Devine Heritage Artistry, and Project Origin. Her music background includes training acoustic and electric bass, jazz and musical theatre vocals from instructors Shannon Gunn, Louisa Burgess Corbett, Kevin Nelson and Lynn McDonald, and a minor in music from York University. She began working with Santerías as a vocalist, dancer and auxiliary percussionist after collaborating with Juan Dino Toledo on flamenco shows; she looks forward to upcoming projects with the group and all its musicians.
