Juan Dino Toledo
Guitarist/Composer
|
Juan Dino Toledo is a guitarist and composer originally from Chile. He has lived most of his life in Toronto where he has been exposed to a wide variety of musical styles. He has been composing since the late 80's and started by playing and recording rock music in various local bands, including touring with and opening for bands such as I Mother Earth & Jeff Healy.
In order to grow as a musician, he started studying Jazz and East Indian music with Michael Kleniec. This led to playing in multicultural bands such as "Maiz Verde" a South American Folk band, with whom he recorded and toured western Canada, including performances at the Expo 86 in Vancouver. He also played in the band "Mistral" an Andean music group who have recorded two productions and toured throughout Canada. It was at around this time in the mid 90's when he discovered and fell in love with Flamenco music.
He has developed as a Flamenco guitarist under the tutelage of Flamenco guitar master Miguel de la Bastide since 1997, where he learned how to accompany Flamenco dance and “cante” (singing). It was also during this time that he met Jesse Cook and played in his band at the Toronto Film Festival as well as some shows in Las Vegas. As part of his continuing involvement in the flamenco and classical guitar world, he is also part of the Carmen Romero Flamenco Dance Company and Miguel de la Bastide Flamenco Music Group as well as the “Indiantouch Orchestra”, a ten piece, South Indian band.
Juan Dino has recently recorded a CD with Santerias entitled "Bosketches", where he composed most of the material. He was also one of the composers and lead guitarist for the debut CD for SolaZul, a successful worldwide-release jungle - drum and bass project. Juan Dino is also composing the music for a Canadian / Chilean documentary production entitled "Uncertain Future" about homeless kids in Chile, Mexico and Toronto.
