Rino Manfredi
Bongos, Congas, Brazilian Percussion

Coming from an Italian musical family, Rino's grandfather was the town marching band leader in his home town. In the 1960's after immigrating to Canada, Rino's father played drums in the local lounge and wedding band circuit throughout Ontario.

It is from this history that he draws upon his musical inspiration and aspirations.

Rino spent many years in his youth and teens as an accordionist accompanying his father and grandfather at various events. In later years, went on to play keyboards in Tall New Buildings whose members included Jian Ghomeshi (Moxy Fruvous, CBC host), and Murray Foster (bass player –Great Big Sea) Later projects included producing solo & local R&B artists, and a stint in a 8 piece funk band (Jamnation.)

Rino is a new addition to the Santerias line-up, and brings with him various multi-percussion and rhythmic disciplines:

Performing member of GRES Escola De Samba Toronto – a large traditional Carnaval style samba band(under the leadership of Alan Heatherington) that performs at various festivals/events/shows throughout Ontario.

Hi-lites included travelling to Sao Paolo Brazil to parade in a regional Carnaval (Leãos De Hortolandia – Jundiai). As well, playing to mass throngs at various clubs during the craziest parties of the year! A tour is again scheduled for fall 2009.

Studied/performed Afro-Cuban rumba with Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo (MEINL endorsed artist – Hilario Duran Big Band, Rumba Iyabo)

Currently studying cajon & performing Spanish flamenco with the Carmen Romero Dance Company.
